What You Take Into 2026 Will Determine What You Get Out of It

What You Take Into 2026 Will Determine What You Get Out of It

You know what I’ve learned after working with thousands of practitioners?

Growth is rarely about adding more.

Most of the time… it’s about letting go.

This came up powerfully in our recent Growth Lab Sprint — a session that was meant to be about strategy, metrics, and 2026 planning, but ended up revealing something deeper:

Most clinic owners are still trying to scale with a backpack full of bricks.

So today, I want to give you the same framework we used inside the room — the one that helped my clinic owners get clear, calm, and in control of where they’re heading next year.

And if your brain is tired of reacting, hustling, and holding everything together by sheer force of will… this is going to feel like oxygen.

Let’s get into it.

1. Start by Deciding What You're Not Taking With You

One of the first questions I asked the room was simple:

“What are you no longer willing to carry into 2026?”

This is not a cute journaling exercise. This is the backbone of strategic growth.

Because you cannot plan your next era while dragging the dead weight of your current one.

Inside the sprint, I watched clinic owners list out:

  • Toxic associates

  • Clients who drain their energy

  • Unclear clinic identities

  • Old offers, old pricing, old expectations

  • Admin chaos

  • Roles they’ve long outgrown

  • Decisions they’ve been avoiding for years

This list — the “stuff that doesn’t get to come with us” — became the most important strategic document of the entire session.

You cannot design your future from inside your past.

So ask yourself:

What has to go so you can grow?

Write it down. Name it. Release it.

Your 2026 starts there.

2. Choose What You’re Optimizing For — Because You Can’t Optimize for Everything

Most practitioners plan backwards.

They start with tactics:

“Should I post more on Instagram?”

“Should my webinar be evergreen?”

“How do I get more new patients?”

But none of those questions matter until you answer this one:

“What is my business optimizing for this year?”

Every year of your business has a “main thing.”

And without naming it, you’ll chase 16 priorities at once and move none of them forward.

Inside Growth Lab, our clinic owners chose from:

  • Revenue

  • Profitability

  • Take-home pay

  • Team success

  • Paid time off

  • Reducing cost of acquisition

  • Improving retention

For many, the answer was a combination:

“Revenue… but WITHOUT me carrying the whole clinic on my back.”

“Team success… because I'm done being the bottleneck.”

When you know what you’re optimizing for, everything gets simpler:

Pricing decisions become obvious.

Hiring decisions become clearer.

Marketing rhythms fall into place.

Your calendar becomes aligned instead of chaotic.

Strategy is the art of choosing.

And 2026 will demand that you choose.

3. Reverse Engineer a Business That Funds the Life You Want — Not the Other Way Around

This is where most practitioners fall off the rails.

They build a business…

Then try to squeeze their life into whatever’s left over.

That’s backwards.

During the sprint, I taught what I call the Life Equation:

Start by defining what must be true in your life — then reverse-engineer the business model that supports it.

For example, my own equation includes:

  • Walking my kids to school

  • Going to the gym daily

  • Protecting Fridays

  • Living part of the year in Europe

To make that my reality, the business must support:

  • A strong team

  • Tight operational systems

  • Revenue that can fund leverage

  • Clear boundaries around my role

Your life is not an afterthought. It is the blueprint.

When you let your life be the anchor, your business model finally makes sense.

This is how you scale without burning out.

This is how you lead without losing yourself.

This is how you grow without grinding.

2026 Belongs to the Clinician Who Chooses Intentionally

If you take one thing from this post, let it be this:

Your business will not rise until you stop carrying the things that keep it small.

Let go.

Choose your priorities.

Design from the life you want, not the life you’re tolerating.

2026 is a year of elevation — but only if you architect it that way.

And if you’re craving the space, clarity, and strategic power to build your next era…
